Luluzu Luzu—once a well-known name in Ul’dah—is now little more than a whisper in the dust. With her public image in shambles, she insists on her innocence, though that hasn’t stopped her so-called “friends” from distancing themselves. The once-beloved merchant, benefactor, and charmer now lingers in the shadows of her own city, left to explore the ruins of her old life alone. Now, she resides in the Goblet, running a quiet, unassuming inn where weary adventurers can rest—for a small, humbler fee, of course. Some might say she’s simply looking for a way to stay afloat after losing her benefactors. Others might wonder if she’s still playing the same game, just on a smaller board. One thing is for certain: there’s less of a mask now. Luluzu is no angel, nor a scheming viper—at least, not like before. She’s a rambunctious mother, a woman with an eye for opportunity, and an exile trying to reclaim a place in a city that barely remembers her name.Perhaps the real story starts here.

lore: the story so far.

This is a condensed version of her backstory. Detailed version coming soon! Feel free to ask about anything, since my carrd is a work in progress. updated : 2/24/25A once-beloved figure in Ul’dah, Luluzu’s life truly began after the Calamity. Rising from the ashes of her past—one shrouded in deceit and scams—the lalafell whom so few truly knew became a prominent face in Eorzea’s restoration. The snake clad in white began her journey as a member of the Brass Blades of the Rose. With her charm and feigned purity, she earned the trust of Ul’dah’s populace. Over time, her helpful deeds and willingness to lend a hand catapulted her into the orbit of higher powers within the city’s hierarchy.Eventually, when she felt comfortable enough, Luluzu retired from the Brass Blades. The delectable confections she had once given away so kindly became a full-fledged business. Society’s “kindest lalafell” busied herself with selling delicacies, hosting fine gatherings, and smiling sweetly among Ul’dah’s elite.Yet beneath that success, her poison ran deep. Once a con artist, Luluzu secretly consorted with underworld partners, sometimes even orchestrating their plans while disguised. This double life continued for many seasons—its wine glass always full—until tragedy struck: the death of her son, Yulu Zolu.
His body turned up in the Far East, leaving telltale clues that implicated one of Luluzu’s longtime accomplices, a Hyur with a vile reputation. During his interrogation, fresh evidence linked Luluzu herself to several abhorrent deeds. Her once-dignified name crumbled. Even those who had cheered her countless charities began to whisper: had Ul’dah been fooled by one of the biggest cons in its history? Some believed her tearful claims of coercion; others recognized an all-too-familiar cunning in the woman. Either way, Luluzu’s reputation was beyond rescue. As time wore on, the adoration and invitations she once enjoyed dwindled to nothing. Now, even her closest associates dare not be seen at her side. Though a few still hold to her innocence, most aren’t willing to sacrifice their own standing for her sake. It’s back to square one for Luluzu. Back to the same miserable girl who once felt trapped among the Coerthan farms she loathed. She needs that spark she lost—any spark, no matter where it comes from. And truth be told, she doesn’t care if it’s from the good or the bad.

lore: origin
Luluzu was born in the rural outskirts of the Coerthas Highlands, the youngest of three siblings in a Lalafell family renowned (at least locally) for raising chocobos and other livestock. Though the region was largely dominated by Elezen, her parents had secured a rare contract with a minor Ishgardian house: decades ago, their expertise in chocobo breeding had been sought after, prompting them to relocate from Thanalan in exchange for farmland and modest patronage.Despite the stark cold and often stony reception from locals wary of foreigners, Luluzu’s parents took pride in their work. They believed they’d found a stable livelihood in the highlands—one that could provide for their children and might eventually earn a whisper of respect, even in the insular Ishgardian society. Their farm, nestled near the mountain passes, became a small yet essential stop for travelers in need of well-trained birds or hearty provisions. But for Luluzu, the daily grind among snow-swept stables and frigid winds was monotonous. No matter how well her family was treated by their Ishgardian patrons, she felt overshadowed by the looming spires of the Holy See and its nobles passing by in grand carriages. She loathed remaining “the same, typical common folk” when the allure of wealth, fame, and grand exploits beckoned from beyond the region’s frosty borders. At sixteen summers—still too young in many eyes to make such a drastic choice—Luluzu made her move. Before her parents could stop her, and before she was even granted a formal courtesy name by the local populace, she gathered what little she had and fled Coerthas under cover of darkness. Her older brothers, Jalju and Fefo, were stunned that their spirited little sister—a Lalafell who’d always seemed hungry for attention—would truly run away without so much as a goodbye. There was nothing anyone could do, though. After moons and moons of no return, seasons in which as if the child had never been born, all they could hope for her was the best, wherever she was.It wasn't as if they had much power to do anything else.
In actuality, Lulu eloped.Found mutual dreams amongst another lalafell just as miserable, from the Brume without any parents or direction in life. They impulsively found themselves with a son named Yulu, and another called Nojin after a few years together making their way to the brighter paths in Ul'dah. At that time, Lulu would also pick her lalafellian name and soon identity: Luluzu Luzu. The name presumably would become a star.“No house in Ishgard will ever shine as bright as we will!” she proclaimed to her partner, hands clasped tight whenever they danced in any avenue that might spare a few gil. “The Twelve be damned if they think to choose our fates.”And though hardly in their late teens, she and her partner would tirelessly pick whatever job or task that needed to be done to get closer to their goal. Paradise had been at their fingertips, at least in their perspective. Even when they were still so small in reputation, their motivations were the strongest kindle to their fires; two lalafells living in an almost endless celebration, dancing away for the next role. However, there was an issue with their big plan — in fact, there always had been. Kiyiyi, Lulu's companion, was born as an ill child and it seemed that her condition only got worse. Kiyiyi never wanted to tell Lulu. After all, this alone was a chance to be free from the harshness of the Brume, free from the dreaded destiny that was given to her at such a young age.Lulu did everything in her power to heal Kiyiyi's state, however, no common medicine would be enough to lift Kiyiyi from the poor status she was in.They needed the Phrontistery, a place that neither was even close to being able to afford. It was there, within that moment when Kiyiyi passed inside their tiny home, had Lulu realised how far away they were from the desires they had. The rich would always be given a golden spoon, while the lesser fortunes must work twice as hard to merely just fantasise about a better reality. The cold, empty summers that were only for Lulu and her two children made her learn a few things. Work was not fit to succeed through normal means: but through her own and nothing else.

i saw you stare from my peripheral
lore: pre-calamity
Lulu eventually bonded with someone who had barely any love to give Nenlu Gemulu was one of the connections she made through her growing network of cons—a means to gain gil and survive. He was a peddler, and a drunk one at that, hardly able to stand on his own, yet he had just enough fortune for Lulu to manipulate. Theirs was less a marriage and a more business arrangement, with Nenlu watching from the sidelines as Lulu trotted off to bring in wealth for the household. Fake tarot readings, selling phony jewelry, or peddling outright lies—anything Lulu could do to achieve her luxuries, she did well.Amid these schemes, she forged a precious bond with her eldest son, Yulu. The moment Yulu was old enough to join their “craft,” he jumped in eagerly, and Lulu welcomed him with open arms. While she was confident and outspoken, he proved intuitive and charming—the perfect combination for success. Yulu idolized his mother. They were thick as thieves, visiting the Platinum Mirage together and reveling in the riches they earned. Meanwhile, her youngest son, Nojin, did everything he could to distance himself from a family of con artists. It was obvious who was the favorite child, though Nojin—a rebellious spirit—didn’t seem to care. That was, until the inevitable happened. The chaos that razed Ul’dah threw Yulu—and especially Lulu and Nenlu—into turmoil. Before the tragedy, Lulu had finally been cornered by a notorious band of thieves she had scammed, and her escape route led straight to a dead-end. Desperate, she offered Yulu as part of a deal, enraging him. He’d always been the favorite, yet she so easily betrayed his love for a quick getaway—something he should have seen coming from the start.“Oh, there you are, my beloved son!” she cooed when he returned, her smile once a comforting sight to his youthful heart. “I’m afraid you must go with these men immediately, Yulu. Your dearest mother’s in a bit of trouble.”But Lulu’s worries paled against the Calamity’s merciless tide. As Ul’dah burned, Yulu found himself suddenly abandoned—neither his parents nor his brother were anywhere to be found. Fleeing from one disaster, he was met with more destruction beyond Thanalan.
In the aftermath, hope became the most precious commodity. As Eorzea reeled from scorched ruins and shifting climates, Luluzu seized on the chaos. Distancing herself from Nenlu and forging an unlikely alliance with Brunwulf Newton—one of the bandits who had stormed into her life with rage—she hatched a scheme more ambitious than ever.“Listen well,” she murmured, powdering her nose in the shadows. “People are fickle creatures. They want answers—good answers—more than they want the truth. Can we blame them? After all, aren’t we the same?”Luluzu was no naïve little girl anymore, she knew she was also included. Even with all the work, she managed to escape her fate, the love she believed could turn her dreams into reality — it was all taken away from her, without any other reason aside from the lack of privilege she was born into. So, perhaps despair was what she needed to plant her passions. During the troubled times, there was Luluzu Luzu: lending her arm out with a gentle smile. She provided Samaritan work, an ear for anyone to hear, and most importantly the taste of sweets as sweet as the creator herself to ease the pain that all of Eorzea had to face. But what became of the real Lulu? The scamming lalafell with a vulgar tongue who bore no sympathy for anyone who let themselves get caught in her trap? Well, she was still there. In fact, 'Luluzu' never really left. She simply went by Yozu instead, letting only the company that mattered take note of her true nature. Luluzu never died she merely was reborn; by the tears of the unfortunate, the same ones she wept with no one there to wipe them away. Luluzu Lulu was never a name that anyone remembered, however now, it was a connection that could potentially finally bring her to the indulgence she so deserved.Lie and play this pitiful game. That was all Lulu needed to do. If you look and sound like a nobility, eventually, you will become one. Nobody needed to know who Luluzu once was. Only that now she was a woman with a chance: even if she was far from being genuine about it.

baby, it's been a hell of a day.
lore: matron's compass.
Location. Sultana's Breath Wing 1 Room #36 / 14th Ward, Goblet. For immersive purposes, however, please regard this residence as a small plot until I am capable of landing a plot of land for her OOC-ly.Pricing. The Matron's compass is a significantly cheaper place to reside for the night, considering all its amenities.Compared to any average privately owned inn, Luluzu runs the business mostly on her own; acting as more of a hostel than an actual lodge. Reserving a night includes the price of both the provided services (meals, bathing, and other means of assistance from the lalafellian woman herself) and the stay itself which makes it favourable for most adventurers, especially ones who lack significant Gil.Size. Being more a guest house than anything else, the Matron's Compass can only fit a few people in one room. It is an experience that Luluzu caters to personally, therefore, limiting her guests only makes sense. There is three large rooms (in-game, due to apartment restrictions, the setting will only involve one) with a Master Bed that can be reserved by one person or multiple ones if they don't mind sharing the space. A maximum of eight patrons are listed, however, in the lodge's rules per visit.
Luluzu lives a room above the guest house, though, she doesn't ever remain there until dawn turns into dusk. She will either be outside in the lobby preparing food for her guests, enjoying quiet moments within the Brimming Heart until needed, and/or mingling with her benefactors if they so desire. Her room is locked with a key for the entire duration.Services. Luluzu's main selling point is the services she provides as an innholder. Alongside sleeping comfortably, Luluzu acts as a housekeeper as well; offering homemade meals, bathing, and whatever else her customers require. It is not unheard of, particularly involving travellers, for her to act as a temporary retainer during their stop.Stature. It is not a popular estate due to the rumours that circle around Luluzu in Ul'dah. She mainly keeps the business on the down-low, gently recommending it to any adventurer she meets and/or posting it here and there in the Quicksand when her funds are low. This is all to keep a consistent income, after all, thanks to her lack thereof after her personal standing spiralled. Not many Ul'dahn natives approach Matron's Compass with as much interest as outsiders do.

can you make my heart stop?
hit me with your killshot, baby.

001 : ul'dah. If your character is from Ul'dah, Luluzu already could be a name they are aware of. A Brass Brade in her youth, a helping hand during the Calamity, and now a rumoured accomplice to infamous bandits, the lalafell has had many twists and turns in her position in this world. Where you may know her can vary in what part of life she was in, which, also may or may not affect how much you trust her.
002 : sweets.Luluzu specialises in confectionaries and will do everything she can to get/serve into gigs that need the treats. she often advertises around the avenues in ul'dah (and sometimes other main cities). she also requests frequently the help of an adventurer when she needs to fetch ingredients, be it in the wild or at the bismarck; once sharing a friendly relationship with lyngsath, the culinarian guilds' leader.
004 : matron's compass. A quaint independently run inn for weary adventurers. Luluzu is always more than happy to have customers, however, ul'dahn natives may be suspicious. You may find information located it here.
005 : felines. If there is one animal that can easily warm Luluzu's cold heart it would be a cat. Surprisingly, she very much enjoys collecting stuffed animals and paraphernalia of them in her home. Cat lovers and enjoyers may be able to see an innocent side of Luluzu than many seldom see.
007 : the mirage that wasn’t. not all of her wealth was earned honestly. luluzu once operated in luxury scams, investment frauds, and quick money-making schemes that left some richer and others ruined. does your character suspect they were played? perhaps they were a fellow con artist, or maybe they are hunting for answers about a past deal gone wrong.
??? : open. Please feel free to recommend any other way your character could meet Luluzu! I'm in no way limited to only these hooks listed; especially since i'm still figuring out myself where i'd like to take her. It could be as simple as stumbling upon her in the Gold Saucer or somewhere out in the wilderness. I love both long-term and short-term hooks all the same. She is meant to be a versatile character, with an adaptable theme so i'm open for almost everything. You can easily find her at :✘ the quicksands : seducing the easiest patron with her words.
✘ gold saucer or platinum mirage : when her wallet is the heaviest or her belly is full of mead.
✘ the goblet : either lounging in or around her home or assisting a customer in her inn.
✘ the sapphire avenue exchange : offering her delicacies and/or advertising her establishment.
✘ in most main cities : when she is in need of ingredients or inspiration.
